Brick Paper for Crafting, #Paper Crafting , #MixedMedia , #Card Making #Scrapbooking

I made brick textured paper. It's more like a plastic sheet at this point, but it will be perfect for crafting and creating. 

It's lovely.

I found a set of texture plates at the #DollarTree
I'm using white glue and paper here. This paper happens to be an extra sheet that was a spray dyed vintage book page. Coat the texture sheet with a generous amount of glue. Using a paint brush add the paper on top and begin to push the paper into the glue and the crevices of the texture plate. Be sure and coat the entire top of the sheet with glue as well. 
 I used a brick texture here. Allow to dry for 24 hrs. 

 After 24 hrs you can peel the paper from the texture plate.  At this point you will have something very flexible and more like a soft silicone.

 Now as cool as that was, I had to keep experimenting. 

 I did a quick dry brush of brown acrylic craft paint. And a little dab to remove some. I don't want to completely lose that vintage wording underneath.

 I added a dry brush of gold, silver and  copper. Then used some watered down white to get into the cracks hoping this would look like cement and lime deposits. 
Use the watery white at the top and let it drip down , just as it would along bricks naturally. Then blot up the excess. 

 You may need to dry brush a bit more over the white. I also sanded the brick a little bit to help reveal the printed words underneath. 

This was extremely easy and I can see it used as a background with flowers , in card making , ornaments and more.

Hello Fall Link Party Features

Our Hello Fall Link Party was very leafy , pumpkiny,( I know it's not a real word)crafty, creative and fun.

 Here's a highlight of a few of my favorites. BTW the entire party is too good to be missed so be sure and pop in and see what other things may inspire you.

 
I love the simplicity of this craft. It's a win for a quick and easy country fall look. It's even easy for the kids to do or even a gift. Clever. Visit my girl Gail at Purple Hues and Me to get the DIY info.




These watercolors make me all kinds of Fall Happy. You can print your choice of four printables by visiting Angela at Organized and Simplified. 





The black and white adds the perfect amount of eeriness. The bird can pass for a creepy skeleton bird too....maybe. Either way this is a great design.

Limelight Gallery and Studio -An Artist Date

A number of years ago I read, "The Artist's Way" , a workbook for creatives. My best friend Jeanmarie recommended it to me, for me.

The author discusses the importance of some alone time for the creative soul. 
Here's what she says.

The Artist Date is a once-weekly, festive, solo expedition to explore something that interests you. The Artist Date need not be overtly “artistic” — think mischief more than mastery. Artist Dates fire up the
imagination. They spark whimsy. They encourage play. Since art is about the
play of ideas, they feed our creative work by replenishing our inner well
of images and inspiration. When choosing an Artist Date, it is good to ask
yourself, “what sounds fun?” — and then allow yourself to try it.

My first Artist Date was to the Guggenheim Museum in NYC . And it was absolutely by myself and it was a great day of mischief. 

All these years later I still do Artist Dates but not quite as often as I should. Note to self... schedule "Artist Dates."

 While we were staying in Fort Walton Beach, Florida,  a little bit of an artsy town , I happened upon a display of art from a local gallery, tucked away in the children's section of the Fort Walton Beach Library. The art was over the top, large, proud pieces, with a unique and quirky side and more than a few pieces graced the top of the literary stacks.

I was told that the pieces were the works from the Limelight Gallery and Studio just down the road. 

I smell an Artist's Date. 

Let me tell you that, Sharon, the owner, is a very talented and passionate artist. She is full of love and kindness and exuberance for the world. 

Sharon has an easy way about her and as I admired her museum of goodies she told me about her clay classes.

Sign me up sister.


Within a few days , I was back with Sharon crafting a beautiful paper and  clay mermaid. 

Now, let me show you around Sharon's Studio and Gallery.

                

Jelly fish, dolphins and kissy fish suspended from the ceiling as if you were a part of an underwater playground. 

This Coastal Bohemian has found her home.

Magical butterflies.

 Seashell palaces and castles.

 Dragon's Eggs

 And "Egg Artistry" to make the Faberge family weak.

 Her more than life like, bejeweled mermaid greets those who visit the gallery.

                          

Nymphs and fairies and castles abound.

DIY Ghost Ornament

  I bought some round Christmas ornaments in hopes of making a Jellyfish ornament, instead I got a ghost. Happy little fail. 

Let me show you how it happened. 

Supplies 

1-ball ornament -small and med will both work .

     (This is a great way to #upcycle some old , funky ornaments too.)

1- 7" or 8" sq of scrap fabric You can use white , off  white or even print fabric. (If you use print fabric just give it a dry brush of white.)

1- 7" or 8" sq cardboard or card stock

Black permanent marker

Scissor 

Mod Podge

1. Cut a 7" circle from a piece of cardboard. I used the bottom of a bowl from my pantry closet.

2. Trace the circle onto fabric.

3. Cut the circle from the fabric. 

4. Fold the circle in half.

5. Fold the circle again so you have what looks like a slice of pizza.

6. Snip the tip of the  pizza slice 

7. Slip the fabric circle over the top of the ornament, like shown in the photo.

8. Brush on Mod Podge covering 3/4 of the ball. Do not coat the bottom of the ball.

9.Gather the fabric , by hand , at the bottom and smooth around the ball to help the fabric adhere to the ball.  

10. Let dry. 

11. Use the black permanent marker to add eyes. You could glue googley eyes too. 

You are done. You could use these in a Halloween banner or a wreath or an indoor tree.

Be Scary Tablecloth #Upcycle Challange- Material

We had another challenge this month , to create something from fabric /material/fiber. 

I popped over to my local Salvation Army store and picked up a $4 fabric shower curtain I thought could be turned into a tablecloth. I liked the black and white designs when I saw it 

 Using Archival permanent ink, I stamped two separate designs in stripes along the tablecloth. I used an opened magazine as a guide for underneath and followed the line above to stamp my first line and then I repeated the same process for the second design. This ink is permanent and washable once it is dry.

It's really that easy.
