I Must Have Flowers ATC's April Challenge

If you have been following me you know that we have an Artist Trading Card Class every month at the Coastal Bohemian studio in Myrtle Beach.  This month the challenge was Spring- Spots, Dots Splotches.
I added a few dots of several different green paints to a piece of paper and painted it around the page. Then I squished another page on top to pick up the excess paint. That was my background base.

Next I used a variety of paints to stamp circles onto the background using different circular shaped caps and lids from things around the house.
I stamped on a  few magenta  daisies. In the end, I hand speckled the tiniest black dots onto the entire page.
The I cut my paper into 2.5" x 3.5" pieces for my ATC's also known as #ArtistTradingCards
Then I added the quote by Monet . So very perfect for Spring and pretty much exactly how I feel about flowers. "I must have flowers, always and always. -Monet"

for more info on ATC's or to join our swap in April check out this links below.

With love and gratitude,

Michele

Funtastic Friday #221

It's #221 of the Funtastic Friday Link Party. I'm always so excited to find out what everyone has been doing this week so bring on the party friends.

Here's a sneak peek of some 18 x 24 canvas' I have been working on for a Home Decor project at the Okaloosa Island Condo Rental. I hope to finish up soon and get the blog up but alas the taxes keep getting in the way of my fun time.

Please leave a little note in the comments section if you get a chance. I love to hear what  you think.

Easter Eggs Guest Blogger Artist Kat Baker

Three years ago I met my friend and Coastal Bohemian Art Teacher, Kat Baker.

We hit it off immediately , maybe because we have so much in common. Even better than that she has a cool ass vibe and she is an art goddess. Perfect fit for a Coastal Bohemian. I love when we have art planning sessions for classes or when we get to create together just because we want to spend time together. I owe much of my personal expansion to her for introducing me to new and exciting things in the art world. We are all a little bit better at Coastal Bohemian because of Kat's good natured way and her gentle loving heart. Just ask her  ATC class who look forward to their monthly gatherings at the Coastal Bohemian Studio.

I have been nagging Kat to put out a little something on a guest blog post and she finally did it. So let's celebrate Kat Baker.

Here's a blog post from Kat this month.

EASTER EGGS

From Dollar Store plastic eggs like this...

to sparkly vintage looking eggs like this.

Supplies
Plastic Eggs
Mod Podge
Paint Brush
Water and paper towels
Papers (I used sheet music, dictionary paper and craft paper)
Glitter (I prefer glass glitter)

Directions
Cut papers into thin strips and small pieces.

Coat plastic egg with Mod Podge.
Apply papers to egg until its completely covered.
Let dry.  (I set them on the water bottles until dry.)

Add another coat of Mod Podge to the egg.
Sprinkle egg with glitter.
Set eggs on the water bottles until dry.
Extra idea:  Wrap egg several times with jute cord and tie a bow.

Create a pretty display.

Thank you Kat,  for a little holiday fun. I'll be making some of these pretties shortly.

Don't forget to leave a little love for Kat in the comments below.

With love and gratitude,

Michele

Artist Trading Cards Challenge April Easter Spring.

Now that we have a monthly Artist Trading Card class ongoing at Coastal Bohemian studio and with several monthly swaps coming up I have been busy making ATC's aka artist trading cards.

This was a a very simple card. I took 3 colors of acrylic paint in the green and blue palette. I just squirted a few drops around a piece of paper and spread it with a wet paper towel. Then I laid a sheet of paper on the painted page and shmeared the paint together to create a smushed paint look . There was enough paint to cover the two papers completely.

After they dried, I used some Faded Jeans blue distress oxide, by Ranger  to soften the look of the paper. To do this, you pounce the oxide pad on a non porous surface like a silicone mat or a plastic cutting mat. After you get some ink on the surface you spritz the area with water. Pick up the watery ink by laying the painted pages in the ink and then allow them to dry. It will leave a mottled blue water marked effect on the page. You can then create a few drip marks by flicking the page with water to add some speckles.  That's the background I created for the stamped rose.

After I stamped the rose I filled in the rose with a deep rich red oil pastel. I added some rosy red gel pen to the rose to help it pop. Then I aged the edges of the atc's with distress ink using a piece of sponge.

I adorned the atc's with a bitty piece of tawny lace, a piece of corrugated paper and the word Bloom.  That's my trade for the April Easter/ Spring club.

love and gratitude,

Michele

April 2019 Calendar of Events

If you've been following me around you know I have an art studio in Myrtle Beach and that every month I put together a calendar of our events.
When I create the email for my database, I like to include a small blurb about our newest classes and some of our repeat classes.

This month we are hosting a Paper Flower Wreath Class. These simple flowers are so bright and pretty we knew they would be perfect to greet people at the front door. It's going to be the perfect door wreath. I have to make time to make one for myself.

With the children on Spring break this month we were sure to bring back our Puppet Story Workshop. The children learn how to work the puppets, create a play, perform the play and then post it to Youtube.

You can take a peek at the last Puppet Story on Youtube here.

or

Just to let you know what we are up to this month.

With love and gratitude,

Michele
