Frustrated Gnome Artist Trading Cards #watercolor @StPatricksDay

I have an artist trading cards swap coming in March with a St. Patrick's Day theme.   I thought about creating a St. Patrick's Day gnome with some decorative St. Patrick Day clothes etc.  I thought he would be taken for a Leprechaun and well ,he certainly is not a Leprechaun. He's frustrated because everyone keeps asking him for the gold he has stolen because they think he's a Leprechaun.

 I started out with a 2.5" x 3.5" watercolor base card.

Next , I drew my image with a permanent black ink pen. I know that the watercolor won't react with the pen when I paint over it with the watercolors.

This is my sample using a piece of scrap watercolor paper.

I used a traditional watercolor palette that you can find in most craft stores.

I suggest not painting directly out of the palette but to blend out your color with water on the lid. This is how you'll get that soft watercolor look.

I've learned to keep 2 containers of water and a paper towel while I paint with watercolors.

I use one water container to clean my brushes and one when I need to add water to the palette and to extend and lighten the color. The paper towels helps absorb a brush that is too wet with color and to help clean between colors.

Happy St. Patrick's Day Folks.

With love and gratitude,

Michele
