Winter Window Swag-Snowball Fight

Beverly | Across the Blvd

I have to admit that this "Winter " craft challenge was  difficult for me to get behind. Living in Florida, the last thing I want to think about is snow, winter and shoveling. Certainly , that's not all that winter is about but that is all my brain connects to when you say winter.

I started with this snowflake decor piece from Dollar Tree. I could immediately see it being used horizontally rather than vertically.

Here's what happened next.
I was able to add some jute twine to each side to make this hangable.

Suddenly , I could see this beaded up.
I grabbed a bunch of plain wooden beads and threw them in a can ,

added some paint  and a little texture,

and then some glitter faux snow.   Shake it all up inside the can.
Little snowball beads.

I empty the can of beads onto a bed of faux snowflakes on my work table. And then shake some more flakes on top, and separate the beads to allow them to dry.

Inspired, I glittered up a few large Styrofoam balls too. Big snowballs. Ooh la la.

Digging around in my stash, I found this metal "beware" sign. I painted it up in black and added it to a painted cardboard background.
I used a coat of chalk paint as a primer before I painted the black onto the "beware".

I used some cardboard from my stash to make a sign. I painted it white and added the metal "Beware "

I punched holes in the cardboard so I could tie some string and hang it from the snowflakes.

The problem now, was this was top heavy and not going to hang across the window properly but I fixed that by gluing a dowel across the snowflakes.

Now , it's hanging above the window warning all of a Snowball Fight.

  1. That's really sweet, and SO SO sparkly. I do wonder if it's difficult to think of snow and wintery themes for people who live somewhere where "winter" means you might need a cardigan in the evening!

    1. lol something I never thought about until we moved to Florida

  2. What a fun winter decor idea! I love the sign. Great piece for transitional decor.

  3. Your finished swag sign is so adorable, Michele! I must say that you had me cracking up as I read your instructions for making one! It sounded like you really didn't want anything to do with winter - as if forced to make it - "I grabbed a bunch of plain wooden beads and threw them in a can" - from then on, you had me, lol! Great job!

  4. What a creative idea! I live on the Gulf Coast too, & it's been so hot, at least 81° every day for the past month. It got cold for 3 days at the beginning of November and that's it! It's miserable to be this hot in December! I don't think I could handle living in a cold area though. I just want it cold at Christmas lol. I'm buying our kids those faux snowballs to use at our next Christmas family activity night. This would be so cute to have for it!

  5. 'Such a fun idea! We all love a good snowball fight! Thank you for the tip about throwing beads into a can with paint and texture. -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
