Rental Condo Okaloosa Island Where is that? Part 1

Okaloosa Island Florida
Where is that?
It's in the panhandle area of Florida. As a grown up, I'm confused when I say panhandle of Florida and people ask, "Where is that?"
Our rental condo is located in the town of Fort Walton Beach, in Okaloosa County, on the Emerald Coast just across the bridge from Destin, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico and about an hour from Pensacola.

Check out that red pin in the left corner. That's us. Very close to Alabama and only a 4 hr trip to New Orleans.
This barrier Island is closed to the general public just a few blocks away because the of the military. I assume Hulbert Air force base uses this portion of the beach.
This means,it's quieter at our end of the beach and you can walk along the secluded military section of the beach, uncluttered by hotels, condos and people.

We are a military town and as such, have the added benefit of an all day airshow, everyday, at the beach. It will leave you feeling like you are in a scene from South Pacific.

The sand is a soft, powdery white and the Gulf of Mexico is more docile that the Atlantic Ocean. You are rarely going to be beat up by the surf. It's often a calm location suitable for kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling. In fact ,the county recently added a
reef installation just about 1/4 mile beach walk from our place or a quick drive on over to Parking area 4 on the Island.

although it is referred to as the Emerald Coast , I'm here to tell you that we often have crystal clear blue waters like the Bahamas. Most days free of seaweed and jellyfish. There are always little fish swimming around and Dolphins can be seen close to shore daily.

One of the best days, was seeing the rays glide by. I stood in the water and in formation they swam around me like I was a statue and carried on along the coastline.  They came so close to me I had the best view and felt like I was the luckiest girl in the world.

And this was in early November, which tells you the water was warm enough to swim.

I'll be back to show you inside pics of the condo and give you some more of the hot and skinny about our locale.

Stay tuned for part 2 of our Rental Condo Okaloosa Island

With love and gratitude,

Michele

All You Need is Love #Journal Page

I love the creative process. It's so interesting to see what will happen when art supplies and creation get to work.

This started out as a textured journal page. I had applied some left over texture casting fro a project to a journal page , knowing eventually I would create something.

Here you can see the texture on the page and my next step was to add some watercolor and some purple oil pastel along the border creating a vignette.

Next, I added some spray ink. Spray the ink onto the page and then spritz the page with some water. This gets the ink moving and you can hold the journal up and let the ink flow and drip down the page. Make sure the spray ink, like Dylusions , is a water soluble ink so it will react when you spray the water.

I cut a heart shape from a small cardboard box and decoupaged this blue paper to the heart. The blue paper is actually a baby wipe that I used in my project. When you allow the wipe to dry with all the inks and paint you have created another art supply. These wipes can be used as you would paper. I have a little pile of flowers I have made with these wipes.

Here's how I used an embossed scrapbook paper to add a message to the page. I simply cut out the message, added some color and some black pencil around the letters.

Before I adhered the heart,  I added bits of string and grosgrain ribbon to help add some depth to where I planned to place the heart. The string was tinted using spray ink. Of course, you'll need to let the string dry before you hot glue it to the page.

All You Need Is Love

I created this page when my heart was heavy and looking at it reminds me to love, not judge, not to judge the process of life and to flow "Go with the Flow", yeah that 's real, and of course to trust that love will win, ALWAYS.

With love and gratitude,

Michele

Plastic Bag Caddy #Upcycle

I had this tall, plastic container from some wet wipes that I had saved in hopes of being inspired to create something useful . #Upcycle it.
While I was cleaning out the condo for the renters , I decided this would make a great storage for plastic bags. More importantly we were going to be in our camper for nearly a month and this would be a great slimline way to corral my bags.

Digging through my scrapbook papers I found a very pretty , nautical inspired page to cover the face of the plastic container.
Hot glue was the quickest way to cover the container with the pretty paper.

Really so easy to measure and cut the paper to size and glue.
Add a little embellishment like this piece of jute.
 And a seashell, of course.

Oh and I forgot to tell you that I cut the mermaid from the paper and aged around the edges with Ranger's Distress Ink using a piece of household kitchen sponge. I glued her on with Mod Podge. #CoastalBohemian

This was a simple little something that I needed. It works for the camper and has a little more character than just a plain old plastic recycled container.
It's slimline so I can tuck it pretty much anywhere in the camper and it fits.

With love and gratitude,

Michele
