A few months back, I started a book club for creatives with my friends Marce and Wanda, two talented and artistic friends. The goal was to be around more creative minds. The goal was also to let Coastal Bohemian, my art studio shine as the host.
The book we read was Living the Creative Life ideas and inspiration from working artists by Rice Freeman and Zachery.
We met to discuss this book two times. As we were getting ready to meet for the second time , I wanted to include and small creative exercise. Initially, I thought I'd scour the internet for something fun but the day got away from me so I came up with my own idea.
I placed a small potted seeding in the center of the table, gave each person pen and paper and told them they had one minute to write down how they could be creative with the seedling.
During the day, I had taken a test run so I would be ready to inspire my book club buddies, a group with 2 artists, a writer and a retired pastor.
Here's what is so interesting, the writer never mentioned writing about it , the one artist never wanted to paint or draw it.
However, the answers were inspiring.
Before I share what was said, go ahead and test yourself. Here is a photo of the seedling in it's pot. Go! You have one minute.
Here's what I wrote down.
Without telling you who wrote what, I'll share a few more creative ideas for our little seedling.
Without telling you who wrote what, I'll share a few more creative ideas for our little seedling.
Put in an arrangement
Centerpiece with candles
Paint the pot
Paint a pic of the plant
Make a mosaic saucer
Put a funny clay waterer in the pot
Put it beside a gnome home
Cover it with ribbons
Hang bows
Put in new pot
Surround with other plants
Paint blue
Lay words of encouragement on the soil
(Can someone do that to me while I'm sleeping?)
Wrap with yarn
Play music with a recorder
Send to a friend
Note the changes as it grows
Correlate it back to my daily journey
How does the growth and changes in shape , size, color health reflect on my life, my inner life , my relationships.
What a fun way to play with our creative book club.
And for our next book, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. This book has been around for a while, in fact I listened to it 2x on audio on my long road trips.
With love and gratitude
Michele
