Angel Wings Mixed Media Faux Turquoise Technique

Here's a mixed media piece I  made for a giveaway for a non profit event for This 4 Youth Foundation.

Supplies
IOD Wing Mold
Brown Acrylic Paint
Turquoise Sculpey 3 Clay
watercolors
Decorative Stencil
Texture Paste
Stamp for hanging Ivy
Block of Wood
Old Book Page
Printable Rose File.

You'll need some brown acrylic paint and a block of the turquoise Clay by Sculpey
Pull the clay apart in small bits. Add 2 drops of paint to a bowl and roll the clay around the bowl to allow the clay to pick up some of the brown paint.

I'll be using this mold from Iron Orchid Designs.
Do not blend the clay together! Place each bit into the mold pressing into place to fill in the
entire mold. Release the wing from the mold
and bake for 15 -20 minutes according to the directions.

I used a piece of scrap wood for this project.

I printed this image on an old music sheet page and used decoupage glue to adhere the paper around the block of wood. I covered the front and the sides. This is my canvas.

I brushed on some white gesso and wiped it back with a baby wipe. I'm looking to knock back the printed paper and create a more subtle background.
Next, I added some texture
with my texture casting medium.
I swiped it on with a an old credit card.

Additionally, I create more texture using the texture casting and a floral stencil.

I added more gesso to cover up the texture casting and give it a primer for my other paints.
Using a watery mix of Seaglass paint by Americana,
, I dripped the paint  down the front starting from the top. I used a large juicy brush filled with the watery paint to help me lead the drips around the page. Repeat this with turquoise and black paint.

I glued the wings to the block using hot glue.
I shadowed around the wings with black watercolor and added some ivy stamping from the top.
I also edged the entire canvas block with black watercolor to create a vignette.

I'm in love with the faux turquoise technique. I even created some mermaids for some other projects.

Thanks for stopping by today.

With love and gratitude,

Michele
