Eggcellent

Back in NY for the holidays I was feeling the creative urge struggling to get out and do something. Some spring eggs would brighten things up and help with my need to create. Using the same speckle or as I like to call it freckling, technique I use for furniture, I freckled up some eggs. I think they look eggcellent. Don't you?



A few daffodil blooms rounded out the look for a perfect day of feeling the spring.

Salty Dog Bed

I was looking at this dresser in the studio for WAYYYY tooo long. Out of  nowhere  I hear doggie bed in my head and we are off to the races.

How can I make this doggie bed beachy, coastal? +Greg Hill sent me some vintage cork floaters. What can I do with those? Hmmm. Maybe feet?  Oh yeah, I'm on to something now. 

This is really a bad pic but I think you get the picture.  Feet right? You with me?

 

Omg and I just bought a wooden anchor that will look great on this. Coolio.

It needs to say something  beachy, nautical . David the designer who shares spaces with me and often helps me bounce ideas, spit it right out...."Salty Dog " 

Oh yes!!!!That's perfect!!!"

Driftwood Lamp

Many of you know my creations tend to involve driftwood ......you've seen the pictures of my driftwood posing for me. Taking an inspiration from Pinterest, I created this driftwood lamp. It's been on my list of to do driftwood creations but it's finally complete.

 The driftwood was sourced from various beaches and could be from Long Island beaches or Florida.

My friend had salvaged these 1  x 6 boards that are perfectly shabby and I used those as a distressed base for the lamp. I cut a 12" piece and then sanded all my edges as well as the paint. Then applied a clear wax and buffed. I also cut 1" pieces from the shabby 1 x 6 for feet . I assembled everything with my nail gun

I was able to coil the electrical cord into the rope, which was much easier than I expected. 

I was going to use these old fishing floats as feet but at the time they didn't work out. I think  for the next lamp I will cut the floats in half to use as feet. Pictured above is a gift from a fellow blogger, upcycler, FB friend and artist, G+ er, Greg Hill from Washington. Greg knows I love all things nautical and he has challenged me with this gift along with the sea glass collection. Thank you +Greg Hill for your generous gift sent from the other side of this country. Now you know I'm working on something. :)

Novelty Photos at the Beach -Red Lips Sailors Take Notice

Coastal Bohemian received this great little sign as a gift. It is said to be a vintage sign. Anyone ever see this sign before or these words? Wondering what it means or where it's from.

 Maybe a brothel?

Possibly an old lipstick campaign. ..? Maybelline?

Additionally, taking a few novelties down to the beach is a new interest for CB. Since this sign is an absolute keeper what else can we do to share this whimsical proclamation? Create a few photos for sale . Just adorable. Can you see this hanging in a frame in your beach cottage ? 

Maybe that's how this sailor found his kiss.

 Either way we love it.

January Calendar of Events

Fun fun fun planned for January and we already have folks signed up. 
You can view most class descriptions on Etsy but just for fun I've decided to post some pics of past classes and upcoming . 

Sailor Blue, Crisp White and Wood-Boo Hoo and Awesome

I picked up this 5 draw chest and after some time decided I wanted to do a natural wood and paint design .It was certainly a Boo Hoo piece that needed a new image, a fashion consultant,  a new story teller.

First, I had to sand those decals off and get down and see what I thought about the wood. I had to be very selective of the draws to be painted and those to be stained because not  all the draws were good looking enough to handle the natural wood look.
While I was deciding what stain to use, I decided to play around with my dark wax , Fiddes Rugger Brown wax. http://www.fiddes-usa.com/.

A quick coat and buff told me this was it . A second coat and buff sealed the deal ... or rather the wood.
I was thrilled with the results and look forward to another natural wood project just because of this product. Yes, this was just a simple wax applied with my wax brush and buffed. LOVE!!!!

I used Sailor Blue Chalk Country Paint which you can find on my Etsy site link here . These paints are my best friend.

This seems a bit bright. The finished piece is actually Sailor Blue and is closer to the picture just above this . And these white knobs ...oh sooo perfect.
