In Home Beach

Obviously, I'm not going to recommend filling your home with sand. Although my home and car often feel like they are filled with sand.
What I am recommending here is a small version of the beach just like those little zen gardens with the rakes that stressed out people use to calm their soul.

This idea is perfect for all my Coastal Bohemians.

This is my "in home beach" at the studio . I use it to photograph items  and I keep it decorated with shells and bottles and little bits of the beach. To make the beach more glistening, I add a bit of my sparkle, I mean my glitter. Maybe some of my sparkle.

Ideally. I see it in something more like this beautiful platter, found on etsy , filled with sand or some sort of white washed wooden tray filled with all that glittery sand.

A simple fun idea for a beach party decor too.

Keep beachin' it

With love and gratitude,

Michele

Left Right Center Lawn Game Destash

My family loved to play LCR aka Left Center Right. It's a fun little dice game that is played with chips. For some extra fun we would substitute the chips for dollar bills.

When I saw a recent post by Roeshel at DIYShowOff.com showcasing this game as a DIY giant lawn game, I knew I had to make it. You can follow that link for all the DIY instructions. Roeshel has a great tutorial.

This became a fun craft day with my old crafting buddy Cathy. She made a set for her son's garden wedding and I made a set for my family's camper.

Cathy and I did things a little bit different.
We painted our blocks and then stenciled the letters and circles onto the blocks.
I found these floral disks at a dollar store in the neighborhood and thought they would make for some funky chips if I decoupaged papers onto them.

It was the perfect way to destash some of my paper collection.

Here's a few pics of my finished game pieces.

Lots of fun and colorful papers from my collection made this chips extra special.
The little mermaids on this were from scraps of paper from my friend Lori. We do an artist trading card class together and usually bring paper goodies to share with one another.

The mermaid chip is my favorite. I had some stamped cut outs from a past Artist Trading Card event at the Coastal Bohemian Studio. She's on the colorful, stained, vintage pages I made for another class.

This is a special chip made from a map of Pensacola Beach Florida.

After everything was decoupaged, I ran some dry brush black paint along the edges and sides to help add to the mixed media effect.

Grab your dollar bills and meet me in the yard.

With love and gratitude,

Michele

Slumped Tomatoes

"Michele Michael is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.”

I am a tomato fiend. I love tomatoes on everything. When tomato season comes, I am like...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fH2FOn1V5g

However, I can't always eat them all and feel so bad when they go bad and I have to throw them out. This has prompted me to create the Slumped Tomato.

The grape tomatoes and cherry tomatoes are the sweetest and taste the most like what I remember a tomato tastes like. The beefsteak tomatoes from the store are not good. Even the heirloom from the store is not as good. That is why I always keep these,  around the house.

You know how the tomatoes are perfect one day and then dented the next ?  Well, the second you see the dented ones, pick through the box and grab all the dented tomatoes. I am not talking about the wrinkled ones that are really going bad!!! I'm saying the soft dented ones that don't look so pretty in a salad anymore.

Here's what you'll do.

Heat up a frying pan/ saute pan with 1-2 tbl of olive oil. Get it nice and hot.  Toss in your tomatoes and toss them around on the high heat for like 3 minutes or so. I like to get a little char on them. I do not use a spatula or anything here. I am simply letting them cook and rolling them around in the pan on the high heat.

Remove from heat and throw them in a bowl with salt and pepper done.

Chill in frig. These are sweet and salty and juicy . The salt releases the juices from the tomatoes and with the pepper and olive oil it makes a great topping.
I use these cold but you could certainly reheat them.

These will stay nice for 4 days .

Use for:
cold pasta salads              antipasto
sandwiches                      pizza topping
toss into any salad           toss with basil
toss with basil &garlic
"Oh the places you'll go" Dr . Seuss"
(He's my doctor.)

Here's my favorite- Grilled chicken sandwich with fresh basil leaves and slumped tomatoes. The oil and tomato juices make for a low fat and delicious flavor topper. Is your mouth watering?

Put these out in a dainty little dish for a cocktail party along side the cheese and meats. Gorgeous. (Say it like Rachel Ray.)
Ok, so I had the wrong size dish for these lovelies but I staged it for the photo shoot. Such a normal girl.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do .
It's tomato season so go get 'em.

With love and gratitude,
Michele

CONCH SHELL WOOD SIGN – READER FEATURE

Today’s reader feature is this Beautiful Conch Shell Sign, submitted by our friend Michele Michael.  First Michele used some free wood pallets, cut them to size, and stapled and glued the pieces together.  She then painted the whole sign with a white chalk paint.  Michele used black paint and floral stencils to embellish the corners.  Next Michele coated the entire surface with a clear wax, and transferred our shell image by printing it out, cutting to size, and using mod podge to adhere it to the wood.  For her final step she added the word listen, and a paper clay rose.
This is such a lovely project! Thank you, Michele, for sharing your talents with us! To visit more of Michele’s projects, please visit her Blog site here.  To learn how to transfer images yourself, visit the Transfer Methods Page.
With love and gratitude,

Michele

"My son has a t-shirt I love that says Stay Vintage printed on the front.I was inspired by that, for this small framed art project.I cut some patches of canvas cloth and stamped them with a teal blue permanent ink from StazOn then ironed them flat. I pulled the strings out from along the edges of the patch to create a weathered, shabby look, like maybe I had found these old frayed pieces as scraps just as they were.I used some Fabric Fusion to set the patches in place on a vintage book page.I framed to complete the gift."

Materials List

  • Vintage book page
  • Canvas Cloth
  • Ink Pads
  • Stamps
  • Fabric Fusion
  • Frame
This craft is for my son, Wally.

He has a t-shirt I love, that says Stay Vintage printed on the front. So perfect.

I was inspired by that, for this small framed art project.
