Watercolor Sunflowers Pillow #sunflowers #sunflowerpillow #coastalbohemian #Watercolorpillow #watercolor #diy #homedecor

Thanks for stopping by . Today's DIY is part of a link up of Fall Crafts and Décor. You'll have an opportunity to see other creative ideas for this season so be sure and pop over to these other bloggers for some Fall inspiration.

Let's get started.

As we started to get into the Fall season, I looked forward to taking out my tablecloth from last year. It's a beautiful watercolor style with Sunflowers. I knew this year I was going to use it as inspiration to create some things that felt coordinated.

I grabbed some painter's drop cloth as a canvas and framed out my space using an old sheet pan and some chalk

Next, I used a pencil to create my drawing. Sunflowers are much easier to draw than you think. I like to think of it as a circle and spears.
I will be using watercolors to create the look I want. You will need to cut two pieces to use this to create a pillow.

I used a piece of parchment paper underneath my canvas to prevent any bleed through. You'll be using ONLY the chalked out piece with the drawing. Using a misting bottle I sprayed my canvas .

Using a fairly large watercolor brush, I began putting down some watercolor . I really need to keep this simple here. Just some spreads of color so it keeps the watercolor look.

Swirl some of the brown colors into a circle to form the flower center.
Now, I began using a grey watercolor to mimic the pencil drawing in the inspiration piece. And it's really better than I hoped.

A few little circles and dots in the middle help to pull the sunflower together.

Using the same grey, I added an outline to the chalk frame.

Next, it's a matter of hot gluing along that frame line and stuffing.

Oh, right...did I mention this is a no sew pillow?

I hope there was something here today that inspired you to create. Thanks for popping in to read along.

  2. Oh my goodness Michele, this is so beautiful. I assumed this was a watercolour effect print fabric at first, not that you'd painted it yourself. It is so lovely.

    1. Thanks Allyson. It seems the watercolors did a nice job. I probably should find out how to seal it to keep the color from fading. LOL. Your mom must have been very talented. I have never attempted to use oil paints for anything.
