This month I made a simple upcycle, almost anyone can do.
I reimagined this glass candle into a shabby chic counter top holder for use in the bathroom. It could also be used for a floral display. I used Chalk Paint for this project, my favorite upcycle friend.
Although this is a simple upcycle , I like the idea that people can see that glass can be painted and without any sanding or priming.
Supplies
Glass piece for upcycle
paint brush
chalk paint of choice( I sell Chalk Country Paint )
1. First clean your glass. In this case, I needed to boil the candle to melt the remaining wax for removal.
2. Remove wax and wipe clean. Remove all stickers.
3. Paint 2-3 coats of chalk paint . I used Crisp Collar Country Chalk Paint.
4. Sand lightly for a shabby chic, distressed look.
5. Use a paint brush to coat with clear wax and buff to a protective shine.
This could also be made to look antique like this vase /pitcher upcycle, just by using the Rugger Brown version of the wax.
This was a clear vase that had a chipped rim.
I find that when I chalk paint glass pieces and use the Rugger Brown dark wax , I can make a piece look like a piece of old crockery, recently unearthed from an excavation site. An archeological find.
Here's a free printable design to make your own upcycled crockery. Use Mod Podge to adhere the image to the chalk painted bottle.
