Creating my Junk Journal Class

Hi Everyone,

Most of you know I have an art studio and I think most of you know, that I currently teach classes from my home art studio.

I had a request from a student who brought me a junk journal, plopped it on my desk and said ..."Teach me to make this." This is very typical of how our classes get scheduled. I tell everyone I take requests , we can make things from your Pinterest boards.

Prior to this plopping of the journal, I had made a junk journal, but it had been a few years and I needed to check my skills.

In this case, I rope my good friend Wanda into making whatever I have up my sleeve. And being a creative and a good friend, she obliged.

Here's what happened. I didn't take pics of constructing the book but I thought I'd show you what I have. Sometimes the pics are enough to inspire someone else.

I've taken an old book and cut the guts, the pages from the hardcover.

You see the hard cover makes a great base for the signatures.

Signatures are the gathered grouping of unique pages that were later inserted and sewn into the back of the hard cover. This book has one signature but it still has room for at least two more signatures.

Both books used 15 pages for a total of 30 pages.

I used air dry clay from Walmart to mold this bird. I then used tacky glue to adhere my bird to the fabric front of the journal. The fabric was secured with Mod Podge. Be sure to use a thick coat place the fabric and then generously coat the top of the fabric.
