Easter Egg Beach Hunt #Egghunt Mixedmedia #artjournal

During the Pandemic/ Lockdown/ Self Quarantine I played around in my art journal. It was inspired by the empty white sandy beaches on Okaloosa Island. Looking out at the Dunes, I envisioned them dotted with colorful Easter eggs for an Easter egg hunt.

I started by gluing an old wipe to a music page, using Mod Podge.

(This is not the same wipe but a picture of another one.)

When I say an old wipe , I mean a wipe that had been used for wiping and smearing paint and then later left to dry. The result is usually some sort of tie dye look. These make for great additions to mixed media artwork. I also added some speckling of paint by flicking it across the paper.

Next I cut templates for eggs in a variety of sizes.
It's hard to get those perfect edges around those eggs so I used a nail file to clean up the template.
I added a some stenciling over the top, using a bright pink.

Trace the templates onto the mixed media paper.
And cut.
So pretty.

I used a stencil to add some inspiration words to the eggs.
I created a simple beach background using watercolor and then glued the eggs to the page.

With love and gratitude,

Michele

Celebrate Spring Canvas #Mixedmedia

Welcome to the April "Flower" Blog Challenge.

Below you'll find links to all the other bloggers that created something with a Flower theme.

Meet this month's co-hosts!

Be sure and click over to see the other host projects.

Now......
Read along to see how I created a floral mixed media canvas.

First, I added a few colors of paint to my canvas and spread it around with a baby wipe.

I used a brush too.

Using a floral stencil I traced some flowers onto music paper.
I added a little paint to get some color.
And some to the canvas.
I added some stamping using archival black ink. And I used mod podge to adhere some printed tissue paper. The tissue paper adds a little texture.
After the tissue paper dried, I added a little white  Gesso to soften the lines of the tissue paper. It's quick and easy to just use your finger to apply the Gesso around the page. At the same time I'm softening the look of the stamps. I want them to fade into the background and the Gesso helps achieve that look.
Cut and paste the flowers to the canvas, add a little white paint stenciling.
Using a permanent ink pen I outlined the flowers in a whimsical style.
Adding dots of paint help the flowers come to life. Use the back of the paint brush to do that .

I stenciled the letters to spell Spring , onto tissue paper.

Once you decoupage these into place the tissue paper will pretty much fade into the background.
I used some oil pastels to shade around the flowers and create a border around the word SPRING.

It's a very cheerful addition to our Spring home. Just what a girl needs during this self quarantine.

Now check out the rest of the posts.
