Spooky Journal + Recipe for DIY Glitter Wax #Halloween #Journal #JunkJournal #mixedmediaart #CoastalBohemian

I made a few spooky bottles this Halloween following a blog I found at Funtastic Friday

Following along the same lines, I made a spooky journal that I sent to my daughter as a surprise Halloween gift. She is a total Halloween fanatic.
For all the details check out Unique Creations by Anita

Let me show you what I did.

Spooky Journal Supplies
1 Hardcover Journal
1 sheet of tissue paper
1 chip brush
White Glue or Mod Podge
Wax
Loose sparkly eye shadow
Creepy Scrapbook Paper
Halloween stamps

You'll cover the entire journal with tissue paper using Mod Podge or even some thinned out white glue. This is the texture of the background so be sure and embrace the tissue paper imperfections here. We are not looking for a neatly covered piece.

Next you'll need to hot glue embellishments to add dimension and interest. Try the dollar store. Little scraps of fabric can add to the overall character of the piece, especially burlap. Unfortunately I don't have a favorable picture of the journal before the gesso was applied but you have a pretty good imagination.

Coat the entire journal with black gesso. Here's a recipe for gesso to make at home. Substitute the white paint for black paint. I'm not sure if this is considered archival but with the top coat of wax I expect it will be properly sealed and protected.

Next you'll add a protective and glittery top coat of wax that will pick up all the accents and give the piece the perfect ethereal finish.

Recipe for Wax Top Coat
2 tbl soft furniture wax- (I use Fiddes and Sons Clear Wax)
1 bottle of loose eye shadow -gold or copper

Add the wax to a small bowl for mixing and add the entire contents of the eye shadow. Depending on the size of the bottle you may need to add more or less but you can test it by trial on the journal. I also have used a cream eyeshadow to highlight my accents on bottles. I bought both the loose eye shadow and the cream eye shadow at the Dollar Tree .

Keep a little storage jar nearby to store the excess.

Apply the wax with a chip brush. Do NOT add globs of wax!!! Work the wax into the bristles of the brush and remove the excess. This gets brushed around to cover the entire journal and in the process you'll see all the lovely embellishments become highlighted.
You can gently buff the wax with a clean dry paint brush.

I stamped the pages with Halloween themed stamps.
I added scrapbook papers to the front and the back of the book to add some pizzazz.

Peeling wallpaper . Could there be a better opening to the journal?
 A  la Beetlejuice.

The back cover. Thanks for reading along and commenting. I love when you leave me feedback .

With love and gratitude,

Michele
